We are the largest and longest established operator of upright and open MRI technology in the United Kingdom, and we were the first provider to offer this alternative form of medical imaging to the general public.
Our first location – The London Upright MRI Centre – opened in Central London in 2006, and was followed by The Leeds Upright MRI Centre in 2012 and The Birmingham Upright MRI Centre in 2014.
We are the only company worldwide to operate both the Fonar Indomitable 0.6T Scanner and the Paramed MrOpen 0.5T MRI scanner – the only two fully open MRI scanners designed for weight bearing and positional imaging. Each of these scanners has different strengths, and we are therefore able to triage patients internally to ensure that they receive the best possible care.
Whilst this technology was designed for weight bearing and positional imaging, due to the truly open design of the scanners our speciality has evolved into the imaging of claustrophobic and anxious patients. We have an exemplary track record in assisting even the most claustrophobic individuals to obtain the imaging they require. Our staff have a great deal of experience in ensuring that patient’s concerns are addressed, and that they have a comfortable and pleasant experience at our centres.
As well as providing an alternative solution to those unable to tolerate a traditional supine MRI due to claustrophobia, we are also able to assist bariatric patients, and those who are unable to lie flat for an extended period of time. We are, in essence, problem solvers for the wider medical community, and we pride ourselves in doing our upmost to help each and every patient who contacts us to the best of our ability.
We hold contracts and agreements with a number of NHS Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups, and undertake a considerable amount of work on their behalf. We are also the provider of choice for upright and open MRI research projects, and have been engaged to undertake imaging for research purposes for British Gymnastics, the FIA – the governing body of motorsport – and a variety of hospital and university departments.
Most recently, in 2016 we became the first MRI operator to allow patients the option of self-referring for imaging, allowing individuals the ability to take greater control of their own health. We continue to offer this service, and increasing numbers are taking advantage of this unique opportunity.
We are approved by all the major private insurance providers for MRI.
