Dr.
David Grant – Joint
Medical Director
David
Grant was appointed as Medical Director of the London Upright MRI
Centre in April 2006.
David
studied at the University of Sheffield Medical School, was awarded
the J.A. Knowles Scholarship for preclinical work and qualified
with honours in 1978. He then trained in general medicine in Sheffield
gaining his MRCP in 1982 before commencing his specialist training
in Radiology at University College and Middlesex Hospitals rotation
scheme in diagnostic radiology gaining the FRCR in 1986. He was awarded
the FRCP in 2004.
David
was appointed as Consultant Radiologist at the Whittington Hospital
in 1988 and held the post of Director of Imaging between 1990 and
2004. He became Director of Clinical Services between in 1993-1997
and took up the post again in 2004.
Married
with three children, his professional interests include PACS
and teleradiology. He is a former member of the Pan London PACS
Board 2003-2005 and is currently a member of the National Clinical
Reference Panel for Connecting for Health.
David
has been instrumental in setting up previous scanning facilities
in both the NHS and the private sector.
Dr.
Ben Timmis – Joint Medical Director
Ben
Timmis was appointed as joint Medical Director of the Upright MRI
scanning centre in April 2006. Ben qualified as a doctor from St.
Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College (University of London)
in 1975. He trained in general medicine for a number of years before
starting higher training in diagnostic radiology at The Hammersmith
Hospital in 1981. He obtained his higher qualifications in radiology
(DMRD and FRCR) before being appointed as a consultant radiologist
to the Whittington and Royal Northern Hospitals in London in 1984,
with a special interest in interventional and vascular radiology.
Within a year of appointment he was voted by colleagues to the
Chair of the Division of Radiology. 2 years later he became Chairman
of the Hospitals Consultant Medical Committee, before being appointed
as the first Medical Director of the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust,
a post he held for 4 years before returning to Clinical Radiology.
Currently,
Ben divides his time between his NHS appointment and private practice.
He has had extensive experience of Medical Management in both these
arenas, specialising in finding innovative solutions to the fast
paced challenges of high-technology modern health care.
Ben
is married with one son, and lives in North London.
Bruce Madge – Director of Marketing
Has over 30 years experience in health information. He is also well
known in the area of health informatics where he was a founder member
of the UK Council for Health Informatics Professions (UKCHIP) and
served on the Board and Council. He is a Fellow of his professional
body, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals,
and will be serving as President in 2008.
Before starting as Director of Marketing for
the London Upright MRI Centre he worked at the British Medical
Association Library where he ran the enquiry service. Previously
he has worked as Assistant Director for Patient Information at
the then newly established National Patient Safety Agency. His
first senior job, in 1995, was as Head of Healthcare Information
at the British Library, where he managed all of the health information
products produced by the Library. He was involved in marketing
these products and tripled income from them in 5 years. Prior to
that he spent several years working in the National Health Service
both as District Librarian at Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust and at
the National Poisons Unit. In the 80’s
and 90’s he was heavily involved with the introduction of computers
into libraries and has continued this interest to the present day.
His international experience consists of being
the current Chair of the Health and Biosciences Libraries Committee
of the International Federation of Library Associations and a Nominating
Committee member of the US Medical Library Association. He has
also served on the Council of the European Association of Health
Information and Libraries. He is also a Trustee of Partnerships
in Health Information, which is involved with training health information
professionals in developing countries, an area in which he is particularly
interested. In 2000, he wrote a book entitled “Harnessing Health Libraries” for
Radcliffe Medical Press and has a number of articles to his name.
He is currently working on a book on Elizabeth Blackwell the 18th
century herbalist.
